We know many of our patients worry about what kind of impression they’ll make by wearing braces as an adult. At Impression Orthodontics, we say don’t worry about it, because we have a treatment method that is so discreet people may not even know you’re having treatment. It’s called Invisalign.

Invisalign aligners are a registered medical device, you should always read and follow the label and the instructions of your treating orthodontist.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment method which uses a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners to move your teeth into position. These aligners are made from medical grade plastic and look a bit like a thin sports mouthguard. They fit over your teeth and are designed to gently guide your teeth into a straighter position.

How does Invisalign work?

Over the course of your treatment you will be given multiple sets of aligners. Every two weeks you will need to change your aligners. Each set is moulded slightly differently to the previous set. This slight change in shape is what helps to move your teeth into position.

The reason Invisalign is so popular is that not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they’re also removable. This means you can take them out for eating, brushing and flossing, or for important social occasions, such as a family wedding or a first date!

Types of Invisalign

There are four different types of Invisalign and we offer all of them here at Impression Orthodontics:

  • Invisalign Comprehensive: this is the treatment most comparable with traditional metal braces. The full Invisalign treatment is designed to fix major orthodontic problems and achieve results within 18-24 months.
  • Invisalign Lite: not all orthodontic problems require major treatment. Invisalign Lite can fix problems affecting the front six teeth in as little as six months.
  • Invisalign Express: for very minor problems affecting the front six teeth, Invisalign Express can straighten teeth in as little as three months.
  • Invisalign First: designed for proactive treatment in young children, Invisalign First aligners provide preliminary orthodontic work for children presenting with early orthodontic issues.

Invisalign is also suitable for teens, making the prospect of orthodontic treatment in those self-conscious teenage years more bearable!

Benefits of Invisalign

Once we have introduced Invisalign to many of our adult patients, there is no question as to what treatment they would like to have. Invisalign offers so many benefits, including:

  • Discretion: the virtually invisible aligners mean many people won’t even know you’re having treatment.
  • Convenience: being able to remove the aligners makes it easy to continue your lifestyle. Simply take them out at meal times or when presenting to clients.
  • Hygienic: because the aligners are removable you can brush and floss without any metal appliances getting in the way.
  • Effective: Invisalign aligners achieve the same results, if not better, then traditional metal braces, so there are no disadvantages to wearing them.
